WHAT'S A VERTEBRAL SUBLUXATION?

Written on the 20th of August 2007 by Dr Andrew Bartlett

A subluxation in the spine, or "Vertebral Subluxation," defines a bone that has lost it's normal ability to move fully (fixation), has taken on a less than normal resting position (misalignment), and is interferring with the nervous system (neuropathophysiology).

Because the nervous system is the master control system of the body, Vertebral Subluxations will cause a loss of full functional potential. This loss of function is often gradual and therefore painless. In fact, Vertebral Subluxations usually begin in infancy or early childhood and progressively develop throughout life.

Vertebral Subluxations have many causes. Physical stresses like the birth process, falls/jolts/jars, car accidents, sports injuries, poor posture, bad pillow or bed can all cause subluxations. Emotional stresses like pressure at work, death of a loved one, anxiety, fear, depression can also create this interference. Chemical stresses are involved too. This includes factors like breathing polution, poor nutrition, eating artificial food additives, taking drugs, smoking cigarettes, drinking too much alcohol and not drinking enough water.
